TRAVELING STILL

The Traveling Still series uses mainly vintage pictures , mostly from Asia. A small number of contemporary ones - in black and white - were also introduced in the series, creating a world where the boundary between the past and present is blurred.

 

Most of the scenes are of everyday life but the tonal limitation create a sense of quiet nostalgia and poetry while the distance is kept via the "warp and weft" effect which makes the images "on the other side".

The selection and the centring of the images, which are never spectacular or artistic, show simple people who seem to have a complete indifference to our presence.
